I really do enjoy telling people about Jesus. It’s one of the most fulfilling things a Christian can do. Lately though, God has been showing something to me. How we’re so concerned with being His hands and feet…but what about His heart and mind? We get so focused on the tools to do the work. Could it be that we don’t make more of an effort to prepare ourselves inwardly? Being His hands and feet is great. It’s necessary and essential to the life of a believer. However, without the right intention, motives & spiritual disciplines, our influence in this world can be nonexistent.
Physically, hands and feet spread germs when not clean. That’s why there is a plaque at every restaurant reminding employees to wash their hands. That’s why most gas stations or stores have a sign that says they can refuse service to anyone not wearing shoes.
Our influence is like this. It can spread ungodly germs to those around us. I don’t have this all together, which is why the Lord showed me this. For my own growth and to share with others, so we can be accountable for what we say and do. Because being His hands and feet is amazing but we need to be in tune with His heart and mind first!
When we are not in tune with the purity power of the Lord Jesus Christ, our influence can do more damage than good. We want so bad to push back the gates of hell for the Kingdom without properly consulting the only One who can do it. We take matters into our own hands, take steps into our own plans, and wonder why there isn’t a miracle. We leave the Miracle Worker behind and then claim it wasn’t His will because the results were not to our liking.
What if we paused before reaching, prayed before speaking and read the Bible before walking? What if we weren’t just all show and about our works but we were in line with His heart and mind? What if we just trusted in the Lord and didn’t lean on our own understanding?
Being His hands and feet is not the beginning. It’s the result of having His heart and mind. The only way people are able to do great things for God is listening to what He thinks and what He feels. Knowing His character, His desires, His agenda. And His agenda is in the heart business, not the show business.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
